Stella Pruitt, a sixth grader at Smithton Middle School, has been selected as one of 40 regional finalists from more than 33,000 entries in Google’s Doodle 4 Google competition.
The Doodle 4 Google competition invites K-12 students to use their artistic abilities to redraw the Google home page logo. The theme for the competition is “If I Could Do Anything, I Would…” Stella’s artwork features the elements of the environment, earth, fire, water, and wind.
Stella was announced as a finalist by Google executives during a special assembly at Smithton Middle School on May 18. All 40 finalists will travel to New York City for the awards ceremony where the national finalists will be chosen.
If chosen, Stella would receive a $15,000 scholarship and $25,000 for Smithton Middle School to use toward computers. Winners will be chosen based on the number of votes for their artwork. Voting is open May 18 - 25th.
