My name is Ryan Witting and I am 10 years old. This isn’t the first deer I’ve ever shot (last year I killed a 4 point) but it is the biggest! I hunt in Cooper County.
As daylight grew scarce on the last day of youth season I sat in my deer blind with my dad and his friend Jeff. We had only seen one other small doe when out of nowhere this monster buck popped into my shooting lane. I asked Jeff if I could shoot it but my dad knocked a soda can over and the deer disappeared into the woods. Jeff told me to get ready because the deer may sneak back into an opening. My dad picked up my steady sticks and held them in the perfect spot. Just as Jeff predicted the heavy racked 10 pointer crept back into the field. I shot the deer in the chest. I knew I put a good hit on the animal but was unable to convince my dad and Jeff so they only looked for him for a short time. We decided to look again for him the next day. Needless to say I didn’t sleep very well that night and it was very difficult to go to school the next day. As promised, my good hunting pal Jeff took off work the next day and found my buck not too far from where I knew I shot him! My mom called me at school and gave me the details! It was a very exciting day!
