Hangin’ with Keith Urban
I got to chat with Keith Urban a bit before his concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in St. Louis.
All of a sudden, there he is and I’m the first person he walks up to! I reach out my hand, then realize he wants a hug. Lucky me. He’s a good hugger and smells so good. I asked him what he was wearing. He paused and I said “McGraw?” to which he smiled and said “classic”. I cracked a joke that Keith liked! Actually it was a fragrance created by a friend of his wife, L’Wren Scott. I mentioned that I had the pleasure of talking to him and his wife at a event in Nashville during the CMA’s a couple of years ago. He acted like he remembered, but I think he was just being nice. He said that Nicole (Kidman) was on the bus right now with their girls. They went to the City Museum that day and he talked about going down the big slide holding Faith (his littlest) on his chest. We then talked about American Idol and how blessed he felt to be able to return to the show. Though he didn’t know who the other judges would be, he did say he wished Randy Jackson would come back. He really likes Randy. We then talked about his new album. You could tell he’s excited about it and said he can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Fuse comes out September 10th. The next release will be a duet with Miranda Lambert called “We Were Us”. The duet came about when he invited Blake & Miranda to the studio to listen to the song. Keith said he was blown away once Miranda started singing it and knew he had to record it with her. Keith’s Capitol Nashville record rep then surprised him with news that his current song “Little Bit of Everything” would be number one when the new charts come out on Monday (this was a Friday). Keith, who was genuinely touched by the news, hugged Brent (the record rep) as we all clapped. He then had to leave to do more pre-concert stuff and help “Nic put the girls to bed”. He passed by my girlfriend as he walked away, touched her arm and said “thanks for coming out baby” in that adorable Aussie accent. Yep, it was a magical night!
