This was my first deer, and it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life! I’m not one for getting up early and had not planned to hunt Sunday (11/15) morning because of the poor weather forecast- I’m clearly not a die hard hunter… My Dad actually called me around 9:30am waking me to tell me he was watching a ten point buck walk around in our field. I jumped out of bed and headed that way. I pulled up to the field and he picked me up, where we then drove across the field toward the buck (which was still amazingly there!). The buck seemed anxious about crossing the fence line and continued to pace up and down it. I quietly got out of the truck and walked around to the front, the buck stopped to stare at me and that’s when I took the first shot, missing. He jumped and ran a little ways and then stopped and stared at me again! I took the second shot, dropping him. It was so exciting to experience that! It was also such a great bonding experience with my dad! And talk about convenient hunting! I didn’t even have to get out of bed and sit in the freezing rain for hours! What luck! The buck ended up being a ten point, with three others broken off and a couple of smaller points that were a little over an inch long…again, what luck!
