AFI 10 Top 10.

I’m not sure what all the American Film Institute does, but they make some really good tv specials.  There was another one on last night.

Last nights was AFI 10 Top 10, where they ranked the 10 best films of all time in 10 different categories.  The categories were animation, romantic comedies, westerns, sports, mysteries, fantasy, Sci-fi, ganster, courtroom drama and epic.

If you like movies, seeing the lists are interesting enough.  Plus as any list will do, it makes for some fun discussion about which ones should be there and which ones shouldn’t.

But they also interview people about each film.  Many times the people had something to do with the making of the movie, or were influenced by it.  Plus you always get some nugget of information that you never knew before.

And for me there are always some films I either haven’t seen, or haven’t even heard of, that interest me.  It helps keep my “to rent” list on the fridge updated.

I’ll do more research on what AFI does, and you look out for their next special.

I’d agree with most, but not having “The Natural” in the top 10 in the sports category is blasphemy:)

And couldn’t find “Rascal Splatts” anywhere… figured it would be under epic!

Great lists (WESTERNS)and several great movies. I love being a couch potatoe sometimes, and just veg out to movies on a rainy day!!!

There wasn’t a category for one of my favorite movies, “Sergeant York”. I have also never understood the attraction to “Raging Bull”. I watched it in a film & lit class in college (25 years ago) and my professor was incredulous with the way I ripped it!

I’m with you Robert about “Raging Bull”. Hated it. I think people got caught up in Scorsese (sp) mania…fact DeNiro gained 50 pounds for the movie…the whole film noir look. Thought “Field of Dreams” should’ve been on the Sports List. Fun to debate!

“Raging Bull” was one of the movies that I hadn’t seen when I printed out my first “AFI list for the fridge” several years ago and I don’t get what the big deal is. I didn’t think it was bad, but I don’t understand the incessant fawning.

I’d have to say in the “western” catergory that “McClintock” would be in my top 10 w/ John Wayne. Love that movie!!

I can’t believe Lonesome Dove was not on the westerns list. And have you seen the courtroom drama Nuts with Barbra Streisand???
